Obituary for Augusta M Russo (Catena)

The beautiful and elegant, Augusta M. Catena Russo, 87, of Amsterdam, NY; passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, October 25, 2016 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Amsterdam, NY on May 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Cornelio and Antoinette Vertucci Catena, Sr.

Augusta received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a 1947 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She also attended Spencer Business College in Schenectady.

Augusta was employed by the Greater Amsterdam School District as an Administrative Assistant. She was also a well known Capital District fashion model for many Albany downtown merchants.

Augusta was a parishioner and communicant of the former St. Michael the Archangel Church and most recently, St. Mary’s Church in Amsterdam.

She adored her family and friends and always welcomed everyone with open arms. She always put others first, and was willing to help them in any way possible, no matter what the occasion or situation may have been. Augusta will be sadly and dearly missed by all those she touched.

Augusta is survived by her husband, Vincent Russo, whom she married on August 31, 1947. Also surviving are two daughters, Angela Martini (Henry deceased) of Monroe Township, NJ; and Annette Kinne (Cornelius) of Amsterdam, two brothers, Cornelio Catena Jr., (Geraldine) and Hon. Gene Catena (Ret.) (Nancy) all of Amsterdam, five grandchildren, Christopher Martini (Chris) of Warren, NJ; Jeffrey Martini (Kimberly) of San Diego, CA; and Michael Martini (Lynnette) of Edison, NJ; Vincent Kinne of Los Angeles, CA; and Andrew Kinne of Saratoga Springs, NY; six great grandchildren, Isabella, Zachary, Corrado, Chad, Gabrielle and Gianna Martini, brother and sisters in law, Angelo “Babe” Russo (Lucy) and Audrey Russo of Amsterdam. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin promptly at 11:15 Friday at St. Mary’s Church, 156 East Main St., Amsterdam, NY 12010.

The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Mary’s Church one hour prior to the funeral mass at St. Mary's Church.

Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
